The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) is a non-profit consortium of over 100 university members and affiliates founded in 1960 to enhance the capabilities of the universities and to focus on scientific problems that are beyond the scale of a single university. UCAR carries out its mission through management of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), and UCAR Community Programs (UCP).
The purpose of Friends of UCAR is to:
- Encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology
- Promote broader awareness and understanding of science
- Foster innovation in educational programs
- Provide opportunities for underserved communities to engage in NCAR science and UCAR outreach efforts
Use of donated funds:
A small portion of your donations to Friends of UCAR is used to raise additional funding, for the website, and for other very minor administration costs when needed. While we don’t set a percentage for these costs, we make every effort to use methods with high impact and low cost to maximize the dollars that support educational activities. Examples include purchasing a donation box for our Mesa Lab Visitor Center, creating donation links on relevant web pages, Facebook donation functionality, and communications to potential donors that highlight Friends of UCAR projects and welcome donations through articles, e-mail, newsletters, and Facebook and Twitter posts.
